CDA-DWP to take up development of four sectors

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Development Working Party (DWP) is going to take up the development of four residential sectors at the end of June.

The CDA-DWP will meet on June 28, and in addition to the sectors will also discuss other development schemes.

According to CDA spokesperson Syed Safdar Ali, projects such as the revised PC-I for the development of I-14, the revised PC-I for the development of E-12 and the revised PC-I for the development of I-15 are likely to be approved at the meeting.

Approval will also be solicited for an extension in the execution period for the development of Park Enclave, and the PC-I to shift pedestrian bridges in Islamabad will be taken up as well.

Sources in the CDA said the authority will build five pedestrian bridges on various roads, including Islamabad Expressway and Kashmir Highway and in Blue Area.

The PC-I for a grade separation facility at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Kashmir Highway at Aabpara Chowk will also be taken up. Motorists have been facing traffic congestion at this intersection for years, particularly at rush hour.

The project was announced in 2008, but the CDA has failed to get it approved by the DWP. The spokesperson said that the incumbent management is very serious about this project as it was deferred for technical reasons at the last CDA-DWP meeting but will be taken up by the authority again within two weeks.

He said the second CDA-DWP meeting is being organised within a span of a few weeks to obtain approval for various projects.

Mr Ali said that the DWP on May 7 approved two flyovers and underpasses on Faisal Avenue, while the PC-II of I.J. Principal Road was also approved.

β€œIt is pertinent to mention that fresh PC-I have been prepared in most cases so that all legal requirements are fulfilled. Previously some of these projects were conceived but legal requirement such as revised PC-I etc were remaining. Now the requisites have been fulfilled in a record time of few months. Once approved by CDA-DWP sector development activity will commence after a passage of two decades,” a statement issued by the CDA said.
