KARAK: The provincial government has approved Rs87 million for construction and repair of seven link roads in Karak district as majority of them are in bad shape, said sources in the Communication and Works Department privy to the development here on Saturday.

They said that Rs15 million would be spent on reconstruction and repair of Odeen Shah Kallay-Jarasi Banda road, Rs7.5 million on Karak city-Rehmatabad road, Rs20 million on Indus Highway-Karak city road, Rs15 million on Nari Panos-Teri Chowk road, Rs5 million on Sarki Lawagher-Alamsheri road, Rs5 million on Gurguri bypass-Majikhel and Rs15 million on Teri-Kot Banda road.

The local people have welcomed the release of funds by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government for the road projects in the district and said that the link roads had not been repaired since long. They also demanded more funds for repair of other dilapidated link roads in the district.

WORKERS WAGES: The United Workers Association has demanded of the government to fix the minimum wage according to rate of inflation and regretted that the workers have never be the priority of any government.

The demand was made in a meeting of the workers’ association here on Saturday with its patron-in-chief Zafar Saif Khattak in the chair.

The participants noted that the workers were playing a vital role in the country’s economy, but they had not been given the status they deserved.

They said that they had pinned high hopes on the incumbent government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, but it was yet to announce its labour policy.

They said that they could not provide quality education to their children which meant that their coming generation would also be daily wage workers. The meeting demanded of the government to implement the minimum wage rules in both the government and private sectors.

It said that there should be special educational institutions for the children of workers in all districts and they should be given health facility free of cost in all government hospitals. The meeting demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan to include the workers’ demands in the upcoming annual budget.
