Girl electrocuted, 10 injured in power surge incident

SWABI: A teenage girl was electrocuted and 10 people were injured when a high transmission line and electric gadgets caught fire because of abrupt increase in voltage in Diwal Garhi Payan village at Gadoon Amazai region.

Sources said on Thursday that police reached the area soon after the incident and helped the local people in shifting the injured to hospital.

“It was an unusual incident when the electronic gadgets caught fire and turned into ashes,” said Said Wali Shah. “I lost my 14-year-old daughter when she suffered an electric shock in our house,” he said.

He said that the main transmission line and electronic instruments like refrigerators and various other household items suddenly caught fire. He said that some gadgets and items in the government middle school, Diwal Garhi Payan, were also partially damaged while its watchman Said Nabi Shah was injured.

The injured were taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Topi. Shah Khalid, 22, was stated to be in critical condition and referred to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex.

Residents said that because of the high voltage about 20 electricity meters had gone out of order, while wiring of several houses was rendered useless. Pesco staff was busy to restore the power supply in the area.
