Dengue fever claims another life in city

KARACHI: An elderly woman died of dengue fever at a private hospital of the city, taking the death toll from the disease to two since Jan 1.

A 61-year old woman, Bilquis Begum, a resident of Pipri, Ameer Bux village, Bin Qasim Town, was admitted to a private hospital a few days ago with high-grade fever, bleeding and headache. She died due to dengue fever during treatment two days ago.

Spokesman for the Prevention and Control Programme of Dengue Sindh confirmed the death of the woman from dengue fever. He said a total of two people had died from dengue fever in the city this year so far.

As many as 44 more dengue fever cases have emerged in Karachi in a week, taking the toll of reported cases to 463 since Jan 1.

According to the weekly report issued by PCPD Sindh, at least 47 new dengue fever cases were reported across Sindh in a week; out of them 44 were reported in Karachi and three in other districts.

In May, a total of 82 dengue-positive cases surfaced across the province out of which 74 were in Karachi and eight in other districts.
