Eight burnt alive as van catches fire after accident

GUJRAT: Eight passengers of a Lahore-Rawalpindi van were burnt to death and eight injured when it caught fire after hitting another vehicle in Tarraki mountain range near Jhelum’s Sohawa Town on Sunday.

Rescue officials said eight people lost their lives in the accident and the rescue operation was going on till last reports came in.

Four of the injured were admitted to Sohawa Hospital and two to the Jhelum District Headquarters hospital while two others were discharged after first-aid. A rescue official said 18 people were said to be on board the van.

Meesam Abbas, the additional deputy commissioner revenue, told Dawn from the DHQ hospital that one of the injured brought to the health facility had 40pc burns while the other was stable after having a minor injury since he had jumped from the van soon after it caught fire.
