KARACHI: An alleged robber was shot dead while his brother, who was his accomplice, wounded by a citizen in Landhi during a botched robbery, said police on Sunday.

Later on the wounded suspect, who had escaped, was arrested in a hospital, the police added.

The officials added that two suspects snatched cash and other valuables from a milk seller at Landhi-2. Meantime, a citizen travelling in car also arrived there to buy some milk. On seeing the suspects, he ran towards his car. The gunmen resorted to firing in order to frighten him. However, the citizen took out his licensed pistol and opened fire on them in which both the suspects were wounded.

The area people got hold on one of the suspects identified as Anwar Shabir, 25, while another wounded suspect identified as Sarfraz escaped, said Landhi SHO Saadat Butt.

The wounded suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital.

The police officer said that subsequently, the injured suspect went by himself to the JPMC for treatment, where he was detained.

Dr Jamali said that the condition of the injured suspect was out of danger as he had sustained a bullet wound on his right thigh.

Suspect killed in ‘encounter’

A suspect was shot dead while a serving policeman and another suspect were arrested after an alleged encounter in Pak Colony late on Saturday night, police said.

They added that three suspects were riding a motorbike when a police party on routine checking indicated them to stop near Mewashah graveyard. However, the suspects opened fire on the police party and in the exchange of gunfire one suspect identified as Junaid Arshad was gunned down on the spot, said Pak Colony SHO Amir Altaf.

Two other suspects, Ghulam Mohammed, who is a constable, and Asad Maqsood, were arrested.

The officer said that the constable was posted at the Razzaqabad police training centre. He is a would-be brother-in-law of the deceased suspect.

Boy dies as kite string slits his throat

A teenage boy was killed when a kite string slit his throat off Lyari Expressway on Sunday, police and Edhi Foundation said.

PIB Colony SHO Amir Azam said that Mohammed Sami, 16, was flying his kite in Bantwa Nagar, Liaquatabad, when the string stuck in a fast-moving car and when he tried to get it removed it stuck and cut his neck.

The boy died on the spot. His father told the police that the boy left his house in Ibrahim village of PIB Colony to fly kites with his friends.
