HYDERABAD: EC urged to cancel latest transfers

HYDERABAD, July 15: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Nawab Ghani Talpur has appealed to the chief election commissioner and provincial election commissioner to take notice of transfers of doctors and other medical staff after the announcement of the election schedule. In a communication the CEC on Friday, he said the transfers were done in open violation of the chief election commissioner’s orders.

The MNA alleged that Dr Saiful Malook had been transferred from the Kotri taluka hospital to Sehwan taluka.

Dr Abdul Aziz has been transferred to the RHC Jhangara, while vaccinator Imdad Ali Magsi and storekeeper Nisar Soomro have also been transferred.

He said the transfers were made by the EDO health without lawful authority and on the recommendation of some politicians.

The director-general of the Sindh Health Services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, according to sources, has taken notice of these transfers and summoned the EDO health concerned.

PML-N: The district president of the PML-N, Mr Afzal Gujjar, has said the PML-N will take full part in local body elections under the banner of Watan Nawaz group.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said the PML-N would defeat the looters and “lotas” and anti-state and anti-people elements in the elections.

He said the PML-N during the elections would make adjustments with like-minded parties.

He said if the Election Commission succeeded in holding the local body election in a free, fair, impartial and transparent atmosphere, the election would bring a big surprise to every one.

MMA: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MPA Rehman Rajput has drawn the attention of the Pakistan Election Commission towards the scheduled visit of the prime minister to the city to boost the election campaign of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

He alleged that the prime minister, ministers and advisers were using official machinery in election activities.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the MPA said it appeared as if the code of conduct had been announced only for the opposition parties while the ruling parties had been completely exempted from the code.

He warned if the ruling parties were allowed to commit election malpractices with complete impunity, there could be strong reaction from the people.

Mr Rajput demanded that the president and the Election Commission should respect the sanctity of ballot and ensure holding of local body elections in free, fair and impartial manner.

MQM: Taking serious notice of the water crisis in the city, MQM MPA Arshad Shah has directed WASA officials to ensure water supply to affected areas through tankers.

He visited development schemes being carried out in the city with funds of Haqparast members of legislative assemblies.

He directed the officials to accelerate the pace of those schemes which were being carried out under the governor’s package.

LUMHS: The vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon, inaugurated new building of the Institute of Dentistry on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he offered full support for the development of the dental department and announced a grant of Rs10 million for the institute for the purchase of necessary equipment.

He said the latest machinery would be installed in the institute which was not available in any dental department throughout Pakistan.

Prof Memon said microscopic surgery and rotary equipment had been imported from the USA and the Higher Education Commission had appreciated the establishment of digital laboratory and IT project in the university.

The dean of the dental department, Prof Rafique Memon, traced the history of the dental department and highlighted the benefits of the institute.

Retired professor of dentistry, Dr Issa Arain, the chancellor of the Isra University, Prof Ghulam Qadir Qazi, Prof Abdul Qadir Khero, Prof Allah Bachayo Memon and Prof Ghulam Nabi Memon took a round of the newly established institute.
