UoP, EOC to support anti-polio initiatives

PESHAWAR: The University of Peshawar has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Emergency Operations Centre Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to support the initiatives aimed at eradicating polio from the society.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by officials from both the sides, including UoP Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Asif Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Asif Khan pledged to make anti-polio drive a success as a national cause as it was a lingering chronic issue for the country in the comity of nations. “It’s all about precious lives and UoP community service programme will mobilise young lot to cope with this national emergency,” he vowed.

He asked focal person Dr Ibrar and Prof Basharat Hussain from criminology department to spearhead the focus group discussions at the university and the community level.

Meanwhile, another MoU was signed under which the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Peshawar would enter into a five-year working with the University of Peshawar to collaborate research and academic cooperation for fighting climate change, and collecting reliable data for water conservation and solid waste disposal.

WSSP Chief Executive Officer Syed Zafar Ali Shah and UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Asif Khan signed the MoU.

Dr Bushra Khan would be the focal person from the university to chalk out the future course of action in light of the memorandum to stage seminars, conduct workshops and build a strong research-oriented team to help WSSP and UoP build community-oriented solutions.
