PGF Qualifying Golf School reaches halfway mark

LAHORE: At the end of the second round in the four-round Professionals Golf Event Competition of the Pakistan Golf Federation Qualifying School 2019-20, in progress simultaneously here at Lahore Gymkhana at the Garrison Golf Course, 116 golfers qualified for the final two rounds on Tuesday.

Out of 252 professionals in the run for selection for Pakistan’s national circuit, 136 contestants failed to make the grade while 116 successful ones managed to stay in the race.

Among those who made the cut, Raheel Ikram of Gujranwala stands out. With two-round scores of 68 and 74 (aggregate 142), he surfaced as the leader at the end of two rounds. Raheel is followed by Gymkhana’s Shahid Hanif with scores 75 and 68 (aggregate). Mohammad Akhter of Islamabad is placed third (aggregate 144).

The final two rounds of the PGF Qualifying Golf School will be held at the Garrison Golf Course on Wednesday and Thursday.

Along with the selection for professional golfers category, also in progress was the selection of Senior professionals and junior professionals.

Among the seniors, 35 competitors earned selection while 31 were picked in the juniors category.

Top performers in the seniors category include Tahir Naseem (Gymkhana), Mohammad Iqbal (Gymkhana) and Manzoor Ahmed (Gymkhana) while Mohammad Saqib (LGGC), Asad Khan (PAF) and Abdul Waheed (MTG) led the race in the junior professionals’ race.
