Rind’s fort
RECENTLY I visited the tomb and fort of Chakar Khan Rind, a Baloch hero who migrated from Balochistan to Okara in Punjab in the 16th century.
His tomb and fort were in a dilapidated condition. Local people had used unique centuries-old brick in the construction of their houses and seized almost the entire fort. If no action is taken, the fort will perish.
I remember reading a news item last August about how Turkish authorities moved a centuries-old bathhouse to a safe place in order to preserve it from floods. This is how great nations preserve their heritage.
I urge the authorities concerned to take measures to preserve tomb and fort of Chakar Khan Rind and all such historical sights.
