(EDITORIAL) A new unholy alliance between the British and the Bania is being cemented in the purlieus of the Imperial Secretariat. The invitation extended to the Bombay Capitalists to swamp the proceedings of the Conference on Post-War Reconstruction is not surprising ... By profession and party allegiance, the Member for Post-War Reconstruction is ideologically identified with the gold-diggers of Bombay. The Finance Minister can only think in terms of Big Business … The signatories of the Bombay Plan blending the profit-motive with patriotism seem to have elected to sink or swim with the Government and form this liaison of Indian Nationalism and British Imperialism that is to be born the post-war world, possessing the vices of both and the virtues of none.

The postulate of the Bombay Plan that a ‘National’ Government is the sine qua non for its success fundamentally vitiates its appeal when Muslim India has declared unequivocally for separate existence under Pakistan … Behind the Congress façade there have always been the Ahmedabad mill-owners whose contributions to party funds were in proportion to the boycott of British goods.… — Dawn Delhi
