KARACHI: The Karachi Police have arrested two constables of the Soldier Bazar Police Station and challaned them on a charge of highway robbery.

It was alleged in court yesterday [April 18] that the accused, Gul Zaman and Bhiman Das, while on patrol duty during the early hours of Monday morning, stopped two Bhayyas in the street, gave them blows, and relieved them of the money they had on their person amounting to about Rs. 10 — and told them to go away without making a fuss.

The Bhayyas, however, complained to the higher police officers. The accused were identified by the complainants. The Magistrate in rejecting a bail application agreed with the prosecutor that it was a serious thing for the protectors of the public to be charged with turning robbers.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Bombay in the aftermath of a massive fire and explosions in the city,] it is notified that with effect from April 18, G.I.P. railway goods depot at Wadi Bandar will reopen for delivery of goods … The suburban rail service was partially restored and a restricted number of trains were run today [April 18] … .
