Students present innovative ideas at science festival

MINGORA: The students of various schools and colleges exhibited their innovative models at the regional science fair here on Thursday.

The event was organised by directorate of science and technology under the slogan of ‘Let’s show it to the world’ to promote creativity, modern science and technology among the youth of the province. The event featured open competition for science and technology based on innovative ideas, research, models, prototypes, processes and projects among schools, colleges and universities.

Dr Mohammad Ilays of Islamia College Peshawar, a member of the organising committee, said that it was amazing to see some interesting and innovative models prepared by the students. “This is a proper way to promote conceptual science by making students to create their own models and present ideas in front of people. The students inspired us,” he told Dawn.

Anwarul Haq, a student of government higher secondary school Khwazakhela, was briefing visitors on his model of micro hydropower station. He said that his model was unique, which could generate electricity with lower flow of water.

“We have plenty of water resources. If government seriously works on micro hydropower technology, our country can easily become self-sufficient in power generation,” he said.

Majid Khan, a student of Maple Public School Saidu Sharif, was happy to display his air cooler. He claimed that his air cooler was low cost and more efficient than the air coolers available in the market.

The visitors praised the innovative projects and said that government should engage the youth in such positive and healthy activities for the betterment of the country.

Falak Naz Khan, the assistant director of directorate of science and technology, visited various stalls and took interest in the models and ideas presented by the students. Cash prizes were also given to the students for their innovative projects and ideas.
