Irfanullah Khan criticises women’s team selection

LAHORE: Renowned women’s cricket coach Irfanullah Khan has criticised the national women selection committee for selecting ‘under performing’ players for the upcoming series against South Africa.

In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, Irfanullah said “unfair and biased selection was made as there was no set criteria witnessed while selecting under performing players.”

Irfanullah said the selectors should give chances to upcoming talent to encourage women cricketers instead of giving repeated chances to already-tested players.

He said left-arm spinner Almas Akram, who bagged 12 wickets in the last inter-departmental cricket T20 tournament to top the wicket-taking charts, and leg spinner Ghulam Fatima (seven wickets) deserved a chance.

He also expressed disappointment over Muneeba Ali — the second best run-getter of the National T20 Cup with 200 runs — not getting the a call-up.
