Rain wreaks havoc on crops

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Rains and flood in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan have damaged standing crops of wheat and gram over 23,086 acre.

According to the Flood Control Department and agriculture department, as many as standing crop of wheat over 7,000 acre has been damaged. They said 23 villages and 1,700 villagers have badly affected by unusual rains and flood in hill torrents Chhachhar and Kaha Sultan in Rajanpur.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, wheat crop over 16,086 acre and gram have been damaged. As many as 34 villages and 570 people were affected by the hill torrents in the district, Deputy Commissioner Mazhar Iqbal Mahar said.

The affected people have appealed to the chief minister to declare the area calamity hit and announce compensation for farmers.
