Sindh adviser seeks probe into ‘missing’ Rs10m from dam fund

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Law and Anti-corruption Murtaza Wahab has demanded a high-level probe into Rs10 million that have allegedly gone ‘missing’ out of the funds collected by Prime Minister Imran Khan at a ceremony held at Sindh Governor House in September 2018.

He has also asked the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministers that instead of “hatching conspiracies” against the elected government of Sindh, they should take up Sindh’s case of NFC, water and gas share with the federal government in the best interest of the masses.

Regarding the ‘missing’ funds, Mr Wahab said: “This disclosure should not be treated just as political statement” and added that “as a common citizen of Pakistan” he is requesting the authorities concerned to investigate this matter. He also pleaded to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of the “misappropriation” of funds.

He also pointed out that Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda had also advised people in a TV interview to deposit the dam funds through cheque instead of handing over cash to anyone. “What are the reasons compelling Vawda to give such a statement?” the adviser asked.

Mr Wahab said that when Imran Khan and Aleema Khan were accused of misappropriation in Shaukat Khanum hospital funds, nothing had happened despite the evidence. He said Akbar Babar, a pioneer member of the PTI, had not only accused the party of misappropriation of funds, but also approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking investigation into the matter.
