Dams and universities
APROPOS the letter ‘Destroying dams to build universities’ (April 8). A provincial minister wanted to destroy the dam to build a university. This is entirely unacceptable.
We all know that Pakistan is in dire need of constructing water reservoirs for irrigation, drinking and household purposes. Dams are one of those major reservoirs on the outskirts of main cities for providing clean water to the people of those cities.
Destroying a dam for a university is not a fair justification. Large swathes of lands around Haripur are enough to build the universities. It has been forecast that Pakistan might face super floods this year. How can we cope with these challenges if our own people are willing to exacerbate these situations?
I want to apprise the authorities concerned that they should consider this letter a protest against the demolition of Kahal Bala dam.
