Punjab to release Rs4bn next fiscal for ongoing schemes

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government will release Rs4 billion for more than 300 ongoing development schemes in the district in next fiscal year 2019-20.

The projects had been initiated during the PML-N government.

A senior official of the district administration told Dawn that the government had released Rs700 billion for the new schemes of PTI lawmakers in the district last month but it did not release funds for the ongoing schemes.

He said that the ongoing development schemes mostly related to roads, streets, water supply, school buildings and health sector.

People of the union councils contacted the district administration about the completion of the work.

He said that more than 50pc work had been completed and funds were required to complete the rest of the work.

He said when the district administration had asked the provincial government to release funds, it said the funds would be released in next fiscal year.

He said the Punjab government had issued directives for austerity to save money for future development programmes.

He said that the provincial government was facing shortage of funds.
