From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Three students sentenced

RAWALPINDI: The Martial Law authorities in Rawalpindi made the following announcement [April 8]:

“1. Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Government Degree College, Rawalpindi, was convicted on April 7, 1969 by a Summary Military Court under MLR-21, read in conjunction with MLR-5. He has been sentenced to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment.

“2. Rashid Ahmed and Husamul Haq of Polytechnic Institute were convicted on April 7, 1969 by a Summary Military Court under MLR-18 and 21 read in conjunction with MLR05. Both have been sentenced to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment.” — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Sialkot,] Individual military personnel actually engaged in the administration of Martial Law are being issued with red cards, it was officially announced here yesterday [April 7].

These cards will be displayed by them on their right breast pocket of the uniform.

The announcement adds that this system has been introduced for smooth administration of Martial Law and to guard against any malpractices.
