2,800 college teachers to be appointed: minister

GUJAR KHAN:Minister for Higher Education Punjab Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz on Thursday said the provincial government was committed to improving higher education by tackling the shortage of teaching staff in colleges.

Speaking at a sports festival prize distribution ceremony held at the Government College Daultala, he said requisition for hiring of 2,800 lecturers had been submitted.

He said four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme would soon be launched at the tehsil level colleges and every district would have a university in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Besides, he added, Potohar University would be established in the area.

The minister regretted that construction of college buildingswithout ensuring appointment of teachers and provision of other facilities had caused loss of public money.

He said computer labs and furniture would be provided to colleges on a priority basis. The minister said only capable and efficient professors would be appointed as principals of colleges.

He called upon the students to make efforts in equipping themselves with modern learning.

MPAs Chaudhry Sajid Mahmood, Chaudhry Jawaid Kausar and Deputy Director Colleges (Rawalpindi) Prof Sher Ahmed Sattialso spoke and gave away prizes to the successful participants of the event.
