LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan on Friday urged the tax practitioners to promote taxpaying culture in the country as well the government to win trust of the business community with more facilities.

Speaking at an inaugural ceremony of a tax academy by the Lahore Tax Bar Association, the chief justice also expressed concern over pendency of tax-related cases involving billions of rupees which, he said, was a loss to the national exchequer.

He said a direction had been issued to courts to decide these cases within two months.

He regretted that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had failed to make its effective representations before courts leading to delay in tax cases.

Chief Justice Khan asked the lawyers to contribute to dispelling a common impression among the masses that filing the tax return was a complicated and expensive exercise.

He called for a citizen-friendly tax collection system and implementation of the tax laws without any discrimination.
