Four penalised for misleading court

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has imposed a cost of Rs50,000 each on four petitioners for trying to mislead the court with regard to a litigation on appointment of vice chancellor at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.

Prof Dr Ijaz Ahmad, Prof Dr Abdullah and two others had filed a petition questioning the process of the recruitment of the vice chancellor before a search committee. They claimed that the search committee deviated from directions issued by the high court in a related judgment.

Dismissing the petition, Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan observed that the record of the case showed no violation of the court’s judgment on the part of the search committee.

“It is, therefore, manifest that this writ petition is a classic example of abuse of process of law, as it is devoid of any merit or question of law which could be raised afresh before this court,” said the judge in his written order and dismissed the petition with cost of Rs50,000 to be paid by each petitioner in the national exchequer.
