IT is encouraging news that Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has taken notice of the 1.9 million cases which are long backlogged in our courts.

The news report also quoted the chief justice as stating that there were not enough judges to resolve the court cases. According to the news item, a staggering 25 per cent of judicial positions at the superior judiciary level were vacant.

Justice delayed is justice denied is a popular maxim. To provide justice across the board, these vacancies should be filled and the judicial process further simplified for the sake of the people.
