‘Suicide bomber’ with facilitator held in Dera

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Dera police foiled a sabotage attempt by arresting a suspected suicide bomber and his facilitator here on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the Counter-Terrorism Department during a search operation arrested a would-be suicide bomber and recovered arms and explosive from his possession.

According to police sources, the CTD on a tip-off raided a house in Jhok Hayat village in Parova tehsil and arrested an alleged militant identified as Amad belonging to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and his alleged facilitator, belonging to Kiri Shamozai area of DI Khan, whose name could not ascertained.

The statement said that during search operation the police also recovered two rockets, 12 mortar shells, four hand grenades, six detonators, 20 meters wire to be used in detonating explosives and 12 IEDs. The police also seized four police uniforms during search of the house.

The bomb disposal squad defused 30kg explosives recovered from possession of the alleged militant and his facilitator.

The statement said that both the arrested men were shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation. Both are stated to be members of a banned outfit.

The police have registered a case against the accused under terrorism and explosives acts.
