CM orders master plan for Peshawar development

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has asked the relevant authorities to make a master plan to develop Peshawar district and resolve its all issues, saying the representatives of business community, civil society and people’s elected representatives should also be involved for the purpose.

“I’ll monitor the implementation of the master plan, while performance will be reviewed on a monthly basis,” he told a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here.

A statement issued here said the meeting was called to discuss the issues of Peshawar district.

Promises restoration of city’s beauty, creation of parks, sports grounds

Senior minister for local government Shahram Khan Tarakai, finance minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, special assistant to CM on elementary and secondary education Ziaullah Bangash, special assistant to CM on IT Kamran Bangash, MPAs of Peshawar, principal secretary to the CM Shahab Ali Shah, administrative secretaries, PDA director general, deputy commissioner and other high-ups attended the meeting.

The participants were briefed about traffic congestion, infrastructure, service delivery, governance, recreational and entertainment places, cleanliness, greenery, parking space, and neighbourhood development in Peshawar city.

The chief minister called for the resolution of all Peshawar issues on a sustainable basis and said the authorities should ensure the speedy finalisation of the master plan for Peshawar development.

He said Peshawar city would be developed in its true sense.

Mr Mahmood said beautification and development of Peshawar was the top priority of the provincial government.

He said 100 spots would be identified for the development of mega parks and that 45 such places had already been identified.

The chief minister said the accelerated implementation of the Peshawar development master plan would be ensured to resolve the issues of traffic.

He said the beauty of Peshawar city would be restored.

Mr Mahmood ordered the start of concrete steps for ensuring clean and green Peshawar in line with the vision of the prime minister. He said all types of encroachments would be dealt with an iron hand.

“The administrative issues of PDA and WSSP will be resolved, while their performance will be made more efficient,” he said.

The chief minister said the administrative issues of Halal Food Authority and food department would be resolved for better service delivery.

He said 80 percent of gas related issues of Peshawar city had already been resolved, while the rest would be resolved soon.

Mr Mahmood said the government was ensuring the speedy resolution of electricity-related issues of the capital city.

He said mega parks would be established in Peshawar before such facilities would be created in Charsadda and Nowshera.

“The establishment of sports grounds in the whole city of Peshawar will also be ensured very soon. The establishment of Hayatabad Cricket Academy will be made possible,” he said.

The chief minister said the promotion of tourism and cultural heritage was also part of the plan.

He said forts and museum would be established at different places of Peshawar. He assured MPAs of Peshawar that their all genuine and legal issues would be addressed.

“Hospitals and schools will be made fully functional,” he said adding that the government will never make any compromise on transparency and merit in its affairs.

The chief minister directed the Building Control Authority to make a strategy for constructions and townships.

He said the protection of agricultural land would be ensured, while the government would give no space for illegal construction of buildings and illegal townships.

Mr Mahmood promised the release of funds for development projects in different constituencies in Peshawar.

He asked the administrative secretaries to cooperate with the elected representatives of the people in social welfare activities and other developmental work.
