Food inspector jailed for wheat theft

PESHAWAR: Special judge anti-corruption on Monday convicted a food grain inspector for embezzling huge quantity of wheat from government storage centres and sentenced him on two counts to nine years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs700,000.

Judge Ikhtiar Khan ruled that the prosecution had proved the allegations of criminal misconduct, misappropriation and embezzlement of wheat bags by the accused Samiullah Khan, a resident of Chitral, who was in-charge of different storage centres in Chitral.

The judge sentenced him to seven years imprisonment and fined him Rs500,000 under section 409 of PPC.

He was also sentenced under section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and was sentenced to two years imprisonment with a fine of Rs200,000.
