KBA to become party in ex-judge’s case against dismissal

KARACHI: The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has decided to join proceedings in the Supreme Court on an appeal filed by former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui challenging his removal from the post.

A general body meeting of KBA held on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution, resolving that the bar association would move a review application through its president and general secretary to become party in the proceedings. It also appointed retired Justice Rasheed A. Razvi and Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed to plead the review plea.

On Feb 21, the Supreme Court had overruled the court registrar’s objection against Mr Siddiqui’s appeal against his removal from his post, and admitted the case for hearing.

Ex-judge Siddiqui was removed from the high judicial office on the recommendations of the Supreme Judicial Council under Article 209 of the Constitution for displaying conduct unbecoming of a judge by delivering a speech on July 21, 2018, at the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi, thus guilty of misconduct.
