SC rejects bail plea of ‘chicken thief’

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the bail application of an alleged chicken thief Mohammad Zahid and asked the trial court to wrap up his case within three months.

A division bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, the advocate general Islamabad appeared before the court and said that besides a theft case regarding 15 chickens, Mohammad Zahid had been accused in four other cases as well.

He said that water dispenser, LCDs, computer, jewellery and other stolen items were recovered from the suspect.

Counsel for the suspect failed to satisfy the court when the apex court asked why had the subordinate courts not granted bail to the suspect.

Replying to a question from Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the counsel said his client was a labourer.

Justice Qazi remarked that only news regarding the theft of chicken was published in the newspapers.

However, things turn out to be quite different when case opened and details emerged, he added.

Later, the top court dismissed bail application of suspect Mohammad Zahid and ordered the trial court to wrap up the case within three months.
