PHA plants saplings under spring plantation drive

RAWALPINDI: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi on Monday planted saplings at commissioner’s camp office, Gymkhana Club, Sir Syed Government Boys High School, Bani Police Station and Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

The saplings were planted under the ongoing spring plantation drive.

The PHAs plantation drive was launched here last week to achieve targets set for Prime Ministers ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ programme.

PHA spokesman told this agency that the campaign was in full swing and saplings of different species were being planted in different areas of the city.

Deputy Commissioner/Director General PHA Rawalpindi Mohammad Ali Rindhawa on Monday planted a sapling at the camp office.

On the occasion, officers of the district administration were also present.

The students of Punjab College planted over 100 saplings at Gymkhana Club. A Green Point was also set up today outside RCCI office to provide free of cost saplings of different species to the citizens.

The spokesman said that a week-long special cleanliness campaign was also launched today under Clean and Green Pakistan programme.

She said the students, traders, social and political leaders and civil society members were also participating in the campaign.

PHA was also providing plants free of cost to the citizens during the spring plantation campaign. Maximum saplings would be planted in different areas of the city including Public Park Shamsabad, Arid Agriculture University, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Satellite Town College, Committee Chowk Graveyard, Adiala jail, Police Lines, police stations, Rescue15, Shamsabad Complex, IJP Road, Raja Bazaar, College Road, DAV College Road and Rawalpindi Press Club.

According to PHA Chairman, the drive would continue for one month and the students and civil society members would plant saplings and seeds in different areas of the city and ensure their care as well, adding, they had started planting trees in the hilly areas around the city.

Efforts were being made during the campaign to sensitise the people to come forward and participate in the plantation campaign, he said.
