Sindh cabinet takes up heavy agenda today

KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet is set to meet on Monday (today) to take up a heavy agenda that includes key matters pertaining to health, education, civic issues and legislation.

The meeting, to be held at 10am at the New Sindh Secretariat, will be presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Officials said that the cabinet will take into consideration a revision of remuneration for government doctors (from BPS-17 to BPS-20), house job officers and postgraduate students in line with the existing pay scales of their Punjab counterparts.

Other important items include Supreme Court’s order on Karachi’s master plan and removal of encroachments; procurement of M/s Nespak for a third-party design review of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (also known as the K-IV project); and establishment of ‘safe house’ in Sindh on a directive of the Sindh High Court.

The cabinet will also discuss and may approval lowering of the passing marks from 60pc to 50pc in the tests for recruitment of junior school teachers in BPS-14 and early childhood teachers in BPS-15.

The agenda also include establishment of a provincial grid company; transformation of the Karachi Medical and Dental College into the City University of Health Sciences; and consideration of a summary report on urban planning conference titled ‘Transforming Karachi’.

It will also discuss the constitution of a board of trustees of the Sindh Employees Old-age Benefit Institution; establishment of the occupational safety and health council, Sindh; renewal of old lease granted for buildings in Karachi; wheat procurement target for the 2018-19 crop and necessary amendments to the Sindh Consumer Protection Act-2014.

The other items are the Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage, Sukkur Bill, 2018; amendments to the Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority Act, 2009; nomination of the faculty dean Dr Nasir Salman as a member of the Syndicate of the University of Karachi; and release of budget for the Sindh Government Children Hospital, New Karachi.

The cabinet will also take up the Abdul Majid Bhurgari Institute for Language Engineering Act, 2019 and Service Rules-2019.

The agenda also includes renewal of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the health and PPHI departments; reconstruction of the board of governors for the Cadet College Khairpur; nomination of Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad commissioners as official members of the governing body of the Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority; reconstitution of the board of directors of the Pakistan Tobacco Board and appointment of Advocate Manzoor Hussain Larik as the secretary BoG of the Law College affiliated with the Shah Abdul latif University, Khairpur.

Another item on the agenda is implementation of recommendations of a prevention committee of the National Accountability Bureau to amend various provision of law.
