Two injured at BRT site

PESHAWAR: Two people sustained minor injuries while the car they were travelling in was damaged when construction material from the under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor fell down on it in Tehkal area of city.

Sources said that the pipes from scaffolding erected by labourers working on the elevated portion of the project at Tehkal fell down on a car bearing registration number KG-510. Images shared on social media show that the impact had badly damaged the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan ordered an inquiry into the incident of material falling from under-construction Bus Rapid Transit project on the car.

According to a statement, Mr Khan directed the chief secretary to take action against those responsible for the negligence and also ordered proper treatment of those who sustained injuries in the incident.

Tehkal police have expressed ignorance about the incident. There were reports of construction material falling from BRT corridor near Tajabad on Wednesday night, but there was no official confirmation.

The Peshawar Development Authority officials were not available for comments.
