APROPOS the news report ‘PM directs FBR to fight corruption and aim to expand the tax-base’ (Jan 31). There is no doubt that fixing the Federal Board of Revenue can work wonders for our national economic growth and stability targets.

It is imperative that the FBR is given a free hand to go after all tax evaders, and that new sources of income are brought into the tax net, including agriculture, industry, services, IT, tourism, defence and defence production, and so on. No big or small revenue spinner or hub of economic activity should be spared of the inevitable tax rod.

The nation’s top minds should participate in the FBR apparatus as officials and advisors. A reformed FBR will lead to a robust Pakistan.
