Low salaries

CORRUPTION is like cancer and, unfortunately it has developed its roots into our country.

Experts believe that poor people become corrupt in the hope of becoming rich. The rich indulge in it for fear of losing what they have.

The high rate of income tax is another cause. Since tax rates are comparatively high, honest people are often tempted to escape from it by making false returns of their property and income. Many of the officers in the Income Tax Department are also equally corrupt.

Meager salary being paid to government servants is yet another factor. Employees in some government departments are paid comparatively less. This situation is said to be the cause of corruption in administration. Clerks in the court, peons etc in all government departments, police constables and such other employees draw poor salary.

The present system, also contributes to corruption. All parties spend millions of rupees on each election.

This money comes from big businessmen, industrialists and other rich men who have their own vested interests in financing candidates.

All the factors mentioned above have generated a favourable atmosphere for corruption.

If we don’t do something to stop this now, the wheel will keep turning.
