Widespread showers expected today

LAHORE: It rained at some places on Tuesday and the Met department forecast widespread showers in the country in the next 24 hours.

Light snowfall was also reported over the hills, keeping temperatures low there. In Lahore, it remained partly cloudy but weather was fine.

The Met department reported that Mirkhani received 13mm of rain, Chitral 8mm, Kalam 7mm, Dir 5mm, Parachinar, Pattan 4mm, Malamjabba 3mm, Drosh 2mm, Quetta, Samungli 14mm, Sheikh Manda 6mm, Jiwani 7mm, Kalat, Gawadar 1mm, Bagrote 5mm, Bunji, Skardu, Hunza 2mm and Gilgit 1mm.

Bagrote, Kalam recorded 2mm of snow, Malamjabba 1.5mm, Gupis 1mm, Skardu 0.7mm, Hunza 0.5mm and Astore 0.3mm.

The Met department said the rain causing westerly wave was affecting western parts of the country and was likely to grip the upper parts of the country on Wednesday, and might persist till Thursday.

Weather Forecast for Tuesday (night): It forecast widespread rain thunderstorm in (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions), northeast Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions), Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

There were chances of scattered rain in lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Bannu, D.I. Khan divisions), Punjab (Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan divisions), and at isolated places in upper Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana divisions).

Snowfall over hills is also expected in Malakand division (Swat, Chitral, Kalam, Malamjabba and upper Dir), Hazara division, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the period.
