Six killed in road accident in AJK’s Haveli district
MUZAFFARABAD: Six people were killed and four others critically injured when a passenger wagon they were travelling in fell down an icy road in Haveli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Saturday, police said.
The wagon, with ten people on board, including the driver, was going to Forward Kahuta, the district headquarters of Haveli, from the suburban Halan Shumali village when it met the accident near Basa’an Pull at about 9am, local police official Ansar Siddique Rathore told Dawn.
According to him, the curvy mountain road was covered with snow and sleet and as the ill-fated vehicle was negotiating a bend it went out of the driver’s control and fell some 60 feet down onto the lower portion of the same artery.
As a result, six passengers died on the spot while the rest were injured and hospitalised in Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kahuta, he said.
He identified the deceased as Asim Rafique, 24, Mohammad Khalil, 50, Chaudhry Nazir, 55, Mohammad Umair, 18, Mohammad Hanif, 27, and Abrar Gillani, 40.
The injured were driver Mohammad Shafiq, 34, Mohammad Zahid, 19,Mohammad Khalid, 16, and Sardar Khurshid, 25, he said.
