Court to take up Abbasi’s plea in ephedrine case today

LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench will take up on Wednesday (today) an appeal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leader Hanif Abbasi seeking suspension of his life imprisonment and fine awarded to him in ephedrine quota case.

Previously, the appeal has been transferred to the principal seat (Lahore) after a two-judge bench at Rawalpindi seat recused itself from the case. Abbasi’s counsel Azam Nazir Tarar had requested the LHC chief justice to constitute a new bench to hear the appeal at the principal seat.

Now the bench comprising Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Farooq Haider would take up the appeal today.

A special court for anti-narcotics had in July 2018 awarded life sentence and a fine of Rs1 million to Abbasi in eight-year-old ephedrine quota case.
