KDA official gunned down in targeted attack
KARACHI: An officer of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) was shot dead on main Shahrah-i-Quaideen on Tuesday in what appeared to be a targeted attack, police said.
They said 46-year-old Mohammad Ali Shah was targeted on the main road in his car near a popular eatery when he was waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
Two men on a motorbike came close to his car and one of them fired a single shot from very close range and rode away.
“The victim was hit in the head,” said Inspector Aurangzeb Khattak, the SHO of the Ferozabad police station. “The victim was a resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and came to see someone in the Tariq Road area. He was probably driving home when [he] came under attack.”
He said that the police recovered spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.
However, he ruled out a mugging attempt as the reason behind the incident. He said it was a targeted attack but the motives needed to be investigated.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Two brothers die in Korangi
Two minor brothers were killed when the structure of an under-construction house collapsed in Korangi’s Mehran Town.
The area police said that the brothers, aged eight and six, respectively, were playing in Sector 6-C of Mehran Town when the structure of the house collapsed and they came under debris.
“The under-construction house was raised on a very weak foundation and the recent rains further eroded the already vulnerable structure,” said an official at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.
