Govt victimising opposition, says PPP leader

PESHAWAR: The provincial leaders of Pakistan People’s Party have alleged that government is openly influencing National Accountability Bureau to victimise opposition parties.

Addressing a meeting at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, they said that PPP was not against accountability but the process should also be extended to Banigala and PTI leaders should be summoned to NAB offices in the corruption cases.

PPP central executive committee member Rahimdad Khan said on the occasion that statements of Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry and Punjab Minister for Information Fayazul Hassan Chohan were live proofs about victimisation of opposition parties.

Flanked by PPP provincial vice president Syed Ayub Shah, Peshawar division president Liaquat Shabab, Zulqarnain Shah, Mehr Sultana and Ziaullah Afridi, Mr Khan said that PTI leadership was duty-bound to focus on fulfilling its commitments, create job opportunities and construct houses for the poor.

He said that the government should start the accountability process from Banigala as both Imran Khan and his sister and other PTI leaders were facing charges of corruption if it was really sincere to uproot corruption.

He said if the leaders of opposition parties could be arrested under charges of corruption then PTI leaders should also face such action to prove their impartiality and transparency.

The PPP leader also opposed increase in prices of different daily use items and imposition of new taxes in the country. He said that if government could not devise effective financial policy then it should copy the policies of previous PPP government to bring about some real changes in fate of people.

Mr Khan said that politicians and media should play their role to pinpoint the weaknesses of the rulers in the best interests of the people.

He said that poverty was on the rise in the country that needed to be controlled through solid steps. He added that PPP would not remain silent over the wrongdoings of the rulers.
