KARACHI: A house owned by a martyr or his next of kin in September 1965, has been exempted from the Urban Immovable Property Tax by Government of West Pakistan, an official announcement said in Karachi yesterday [Jan 18].

“As a mark of recognition of the valiant services of members of the defence forces of Pakistan, who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country and were killed in action during war with India in September 1965, Government of West Pakistan (the Excise and Taxation Department) has decided to consider grant of remission of Urban Immovable Property Tax in respect of one house owned in September 1965, by a Shaheed, his widow, children or parents as the case may be.” Each case will be decided on its merits, the announcement concluded.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Isla­mabad] CDA attaches utmost importance to the rehabilitation of the Islamabad displaced persons, Gen K.M. Sheikh, Chairman of CDA, said here yesterday [Jan 18]. The policy aims at ameliorating their conditions with opportunities for raising their living standards…. A wide range of problems connected with land acquisition and rehabilitation aspects was discussed at the meeting.
