Ton-up Asad powers Pakistan CC to title

KARACHI: Test batsman Asad Shafiq returned from Pakistan’s dismal 3-0 Test whitewash in South Africa with a century while inspiring his club side to the KCCA Zone-VI Dawood Khan Memorial cricket title here on Friday.

In the final staged at the TMC Ground, Pakistan extracted sweet revenge when they dethroned Alamgir Gymkhana by 51 runs to reclaim the trophy.

Asad led the way with 167 off 108 balls (13 boundaries and seven sixes) as Pakistan CC amassed an imposing 339-4 in the allotted 40 overs. He put on 139 for the second wicket with Saud Shakeel, the talented left-hander who scored a 67-ball 75 with the aid of six fours.

Test paceman Mir Hamza then claimed 4-36 and off-spinner Raza-ul-Hasan 4-53 as Alamgir Gymkhana were dismissed for 288 in 37.4 overs despite fighting knocks from Fahaddis Bukhari (68, four boundaries) and Ahsan Ali (57, eight fours and one six).
