Karak tehsil nazim cancels contract of slaughterhouse

KARAK: Karak tehsil nazim Haji Abdul Wahab cancelled the contract of a slaughterhouse minutes after it was approved by the district administration on Friday.

The nazim took the decision immediately after taking over the charge of his office after the Supreme Court restored him to the post following his removal through a no-trust motion some six months ago.

Mr Wahab asked the TMA to review the contract, saying they would look into the terms of reference of the contract and would change it if it was considered against the interest of the TMA.

He said the tehsil government was against the award of 30-year lease of the slaughterhouse, and added the lease should not be more than five years because if the TMA decided to establish its own slaughterhouse in future then the 30-year lease would create hurdles.

Earlier, additional deputy commissioner Naeemullah gave approval to the construction of a slaughterhouse in the district headquarters and asked the butchers to register themselves with the livestock department within a week.

Chairing a meeting, Mr Naeemullah said setting up of the slaughterhouse had been the longstanding demand o the people.

Later, the officials also visited the site of the slaughterhouse.

ROAD REHABILITATION SOUGHT: The residents of Kandao Sar, Malagi Banda, Wargha Banda and Matoor have demanded rehabilitation of a dirt track which was washed away by flash floods a year ago.

The demand was made at a meeting on Friday.

The participants expressed resentment over lack of interest by the district government towards the citizens’ problems.

They said since the road was washed away, their areas’ link to the district headquarters had been cut off.

They threatened to launch a protest movement if the quarters concerned failed to meet their demand.
