Protesting transporters seek closure of illegal stand

TIMERGARA: The local transporters held a protest rally here on Thursday against what they called the illegal stand in the area.

The protesters, led by Insaf Transport Association members Idrees Bacha and Liaquat Khan, threatened to observe a complete wheel jam strike if the illegal stand of coasters on bypass road was not closed.

The leaders of the protesters told a news conference that Timergara tehsil administration permitted an illegal vehicle stand on bypass road in sheer violation of rules and regulations.

They said establishment of illegal stand was a question mark on the performance of Regional Transport Authority (RTA). The protesting transporters set the deadline of Jan 27 for closure of the illegal stand.

FIRE: Two shops were gutted in two different incidents here on Thursday.

The local traders said that fire broke out in the carpets shop of Mohammad Tayyab due to electric short circuit on Timergara bypass road. The flames engulfed the whole shop within minutes.

In another incident, fire broke out due to short circuit in a vehicles decoration centre owned by Mushtaq Syed near Timergara Sabzi Mandi.

The flames reduced the centre to ashes within no time.

CONTRACTORS: The government contractors on Thursday announced to continue their boycott of bidding process in the district until the government released funds to them.

Addressing a meeting, they said that most of development projects could not be completed owing to lack of funds.

They said they would not take part in any bidding of development projects until the government released funds for its previous projects.

PARAMEDICS: The paramedics have demanded of the government to fill vacant posts of clinical technicians through National Testing Service (NTS).

Mohammad Rahim, a leader of the paramedics, told journalists that incompetent technicians were being recruited in health department without conducting NTS tests and interview.

He said induction of health workers through NTS would improve service delivery at government hospitals.
