Teachers transferred for refusing polio duty

LAKKI MARWAT: Around 41 schoolteachers have been transferred from the district for refusal to perform duty in the anti-polio drive and willful absence from two-day training, held on Jan 14 and 15.

An official said here on Wednesday that Deputy Commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir took serious notice of the matter and issued orders regarding relieving 26 female and 15 male schoolteachers.

He added that secretary of education department was requested by the deputy commissioner to adjust those teachers in some other district.

“It is a national duty to make efforts for eradication of polio. All government officials are bound to play effective role to make the district as well as country free from the crippling disease,” he said.

The official said that a confirm polio case was reported in Bhana Manjiwala locality recently.

“Lack of seriousness and disobedience on part of teachers to perform duty in polio eradication is unacceptable,” he added.

The official said that the teachers, who were relieved, were posted to the schools located in union councils Kherukhel, Behramkhel, Mash Mastikhani, Ahmadkhel, Darra Tang, Marmandi Azeem, Mamakhel, Ghanikhel, Paharkhel, Shakh Quli Khan, Begukhel and Baistkhel.

KILLED: Two young men were killed over old enmity in Khawjakhel area in the limits of Ghaznikhel police station.

Police said that Syed Rehman and his cousin Matiullah were going to their village Adamzai when they were attacked by their rivals near Khawjakhel village.

“Both received multiple bullets and died instantly,” they added.

Adam Khan, the father of Syed Rehman, lodged FIR against Irfanullah and Luqman.

Police said that the bodies were shifted to district headquarters hospital in Tajazai and later handed over to relatives after fulfilling medico-legal formalities.

They said that they had registered a case against the suspects.
