Indus water jeep race held at Hund

SWABI: The Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Frontier 4x4 Club and the district government jointly organised on Sunday the 8th Indus Water Cross Jeep Race, 2019 at the historical Hund point near the Swabi Interchange of the Islama­bad-Peshawar Motorway.

The event was aimed at providing an opportunity for entertainment to the people and highlighting the tourism potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to lure more tourists to the scenic spots of the province.

Senior Minister Moham­mad Atif Khan, who also holds the provincial portfolios of sports, tourism, museums, archaeology, culture and youth affairs, was the chief guest on the occasion.

National Assembly Spea­ker Asad Qaisar, KP Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Shahram Tarakai, Swabi Deputy Commissioner Salman Lodhi and Frontier 4x4 Club president Babar Khan were among the guests.

According to the organisers, over 100 jeep drivers, including women, and motor­­bike riders participated in the spectacular race.

A tough and rough track of stones and rocks of 17km distance was set up over the waters of the mighty Indus for the racers.

In the women’s category, Salma Marwat clinched first position by covering the course in 15:38 minutes. Asma Siddiqui stood second with 19:44 minutes.

In Category A, Baqir Shah stood first with 12:33 minutes, Tariq Khan second with 13:03 minutes and Shehzad Sattar grabbed the third position with 13:42 minutes.

In Category B, Shakil Baqri got first position after he covered the course in 13:44 minutes. Nasir Khan stood second with 13:48 minutes and Tariq Magsi got third position with 13:58 minutes.

In Category C, Iftikhar Zarin clinched first position with 14:21 minutes, Sardar Hassan stood second with 16:36 minutes and Usman Nadeem third with 25:11 minutes.

In Category D, Raza Jan grabbed first position by covering the track in 11:47 minutes, Sohail Khan stood second with 14:49 minutes and Saqib Tawana clinched the third position with 19:47 minutes.
