Two policemen held as UTP escapes from hospital

KARACHI: Two policemen were arrested on Saturday after the escape of an undertrial prisoner from a government-run health facility, officials said.

The UTP, Jawaid, was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Jan 5 in a wounded condition. He was admitted to the general ward of the hospital from where he managed to escape despite the presence of the court police, said JPMC’s executive director Dr Seemin Jamali.

He sustained bullet wounds in the leg and his operation had been carried out previously. He was brought again to undergo surgery as he felt difficulty in walking, added Dr Jamali.

“Usually, they [policemen] did not wear uniform and appeared to be very casual [in performing their duty],” she opined.

Acting SHO of the Saddar police station Malik Hayat said that the police arrested two constables belonging to the court police but their third accomplice had escaped.
