APROPOS the editorial ‘Chinese ‘education’ camps’ (Jan 8) and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s views given in an interview to a Turkish television channel.

In my opinion the prime minister’s tone and tenor were that of a spymaster. I think he should have given a clear policy statement regarding Uighur Muslims being sent to ‘re-education’ camps.

His indifference on the issue coupled with simplistic solution were hard to comprehend.

In contrast was his tweet congratulating the Indian cricket team’s win — albeit historic — over Australia. One wonders at the need for the PM’s tweet.

The Indians have been committing excesses along the Line of Control and in Indian-occupied Kashmir. They even responded with more of the same after the tweet.

Coming back to the Uighurs, Pakistan has cordial relations with China which are becoming closer. Islamabad should utilise all diplomatic channels to reunite the 200-odd Pakistanis with their Chinese spouses and this should be done on priority.

Our Chinese friends need to be told that radicalisation is a greater threat also to Pakistan, but it too should be dealt with in a prudent manner.
