Urdu in court?

IT is almost more than three years since the decision of the Supreme Court about adopting Urdu as the official language.

On Sept 7, 2015, a three-member bench, headed by the then chief justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, had remarked that in the governance of the federation and the provinces there was “hardly any necessity for the use of the colonial language which cannot be understood by the public at large”.

But today we see that neither the federal nor the provincial government is paying attention to the apex court’s verdict, which itself is a contempt of court.

In Nawaz Sharif’s Al-Azizia and Flagship cases the National Accountability Court issued its verdict in English.

The authorities should implement the court order.
