Eight kanals retrieved

LAHORE: The district administration retrieved on Wednesday eight kanals occupied by PML-N MNA Afzal Khokhar and his brothers in Johar Town.

According to district administration officials, five kanals were earmarked for a drain and three for a road.

“The Khokhar brothers are demolishing outer wall of their palatial place and vacating the land they have occupied for years,” said one of the official.

The operation is being carried out by the district administration instead of the LDA because the place was not part of the Johar Town society and falls outside it as a private piece of land.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered not only retrieval of encroached land by the Khokhar brothers but also asked the FIA and the Anti-Corruption Establishment to hold a detailed probe into the assets and financial affairs of the brothers, who have enjoyed unparalleled political power in the city for years.

The brothers landed on the wrong side of the law when some overseas Pakistanis, including widows and orphans, approached the Supreme Court, alleging illegal occupation of their land.
