Chekhov, Wehnelt win doubles title

ISLAMABAD: Russia’s Anton Chekhov and Kai Wehnelt of Germany overcame the Japanese duo of Ken Onishi and Rio Noguchi 6-3, 7-5 to seize the men’s doubles title at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed ITF Futures Tournament on Friday.

In the men’s singles semi-finals, Wehnelt defeated Uzbekistan’s Saido’lo Saidkaimov 6-0, 7-5, and Noguchi overwhelmed Iran’s Hamidreza Nadaf 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Ushna Suhail clinched the women’s singles title, defeating Sara Mehboob 6-0, 6-4, at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Ranking Tennis Championship.

In U-18 boys semi-finals, Shoaib Khan beat Abdullah Adnan 6-3, 7-5 to set a final date with Ahmed Kamil who overpowered Ahmed Asjad 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the other last-four match.

Earlier, Sami Zeb clinched the U-14 title after beating Hamza Roman 6-2, 6-3.
