Maulana Sami’s secretary in police custody

RAWALPINDI: Maulana Samiul Haq’s secretary, who had disappeared and was suspected to be picked up by law enforcement agencies from his Akora Khattak home, was handed over to the local police on Thursday.

Maulana Sami was found murdered at his Bahria Town house on Nov 2.

His secretary Ahmed Shah was the first to inform his son Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani that the maulana had been attacked by unidentified people in his bedroom.

Before he went missing, Mr Shah had attended the funeral prayer of Maulana Sami in Akora Khattak.

In his initial statement, the secretary told the police that he had gone out of Maulana Sami’s home leaving him alone. When he returned, he found the maulana lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom.

A police official said Mr Shah was a key figure in the investigation as his statement could lead the police to trace the killers.

“Ahmed Shah was not an eyewitness to the murder but he is the only person who had been with Maulana Sami and will be considered as the main witness in the case,” he said.

Though Mr Shah was handed over to the police for further investigation and legal proceedings on Thursday, he has not been charged so far.
